Roof Replacement in Nottinghamshire
When a roof has had its last repair, we strip it back to the rafters and re-cover it properly, with new membrane, battens and a covering that suits the house.
- Old covering stripped and taken away, not covered over
- New breathable membrane and treated battens throughout
- Tile or slate chosen to suit the house and the street

The detail
Roof Replacement in Nottinghamshire: what is actually involved
Most roofs around Nottinghamshire were last re-covered decades ago. Concrete tiles go porous, the old bitumen felt underneath turns brittle and tears, and the battens start to rot where water has been getting in for years. Past a certain point, patching just moves the leak along the roof.
A re-roof means stripping the whole covering, checking every rafter and replacing any timber that has gone soft, then laying a new breathable membrane, new treated battens and the new covering. Ridges and verges are finished with dry-fix systems, and the leadwork is renewed where it meets chimneys and walls.
Before we price it, we get up on the roof and into the loft where we can and photograph what we find. You see the condition of the roof for yourself and the quote explains exactly what is being replaced and why.

Options compared
Which covering, and why
The covering is the biggest choice on a re-roof. These are the ones we fit most around Nottinghamshire.
| Option | Best for |
|---|---|
| Concrete interlocking tiles | Most affordable, quick to lay, a good match for most semis and estate houses. |
| Natural slate | A longer-lasting, traditional look. Right for older terraces and stone houses. |
| Clay tiles | Holds its colour for decades and suits period properties. |
| Reclaimed or matched tiles | Used where a roof has to match the house next door on a shared roof line. |

Questions
Roof Replacement questions
The things homeowners ask us most, answered without the sales talk.
See all FAQsHow long does a re-roof take?
Most semi-detached houses take around a week once the scaffolding is up, depending on the weather and what we find under the old covering. We give you a realistic timescale with the quote.
Do I need to be at home while you work?
No. We need access to the outside of the house and, ideally, the loft on the first day. Most customers carry on as normal while we work.
Do I need planning permission for a new roof?
Usually not if you are replacing like for like. Listed buildings, conservation areas and changes to the roof shape can need consent, and we will tell you at the survey if that applies.
Will you match my neighbour's roof?
On a shared roof line we match the tile profile and colour as closely as possible, and we explain the options before you choose.
