The detail

Flat Roofing in Nottinghamshire: what is actually involved

Flat roofs fail at the joints and the upstands, which is why the cheapest patch rarely lasts. A proper repair or replacement runs the covering up the wall and over a proper edge trim, with no joint in the middle of the roof.

Around Nottinghamshire most flat roofs are garages, single-storey extensions and bay windows. Felt is the cheapest option, while EPDM rubber and GRP fibreglass both last much longer, and the difference in cost is often smaller than people expect once the job is stripped back and done properly.

We strip the old covering so we can see the deck. Sound boards stay; boards that are spongy or have been wet for years are replaced, and we tell you what that adds before we buy the timber.

Questions

Flat Roofing questions

The things homeowners ask us most, answered without the sales talk.

See all FAQs
What is the best flat roof for a garage?

For most garages EPDM rubber is the best balance of cost and lifespan. If you will be walking on the roof, GRP fibreglass is usually the better choice.

Can you lay a new roof over the old one?

We strip the old covering so we can check the deck underneath. Covering over a wet or rotten deck traps the problem and shortens the life of the new roof.

How long does a flat roof take?

A single garage roof is usually one to two days. Larger extensions take longer, and we give you a timescale with the quote.

Can a flat roof be insulated at the same time?

Often, yes, by building it up as a warm roof. We explain whether that works for your roof at the survey.
